            Authenticity

I have mislaid my watch's Certificate of Origin and warranty. Can I obtain a duplicate?

Montres Breguet SA only provides one Certificate of Origin and warranty for each watch sold. It is not possible to provide a duplicate of this document, as the warranty must be completed (with the reference number, serial number and date of sale) and signed by the boutique or retailer at the time of sale.

In order to avoid any issues, we recommend you make paper or digital copies of the warranty.

I wish to register my Breguet watch in the brand's registers. How can I do this?

Only the initial owner of a Breguet watch can be enrolled in the registers.

Please complete and return the enrolment form that you received along with the guarantee from the Breguet boutique or authorised retailer when purchasing the watch.

Adjust my winding mechanism. How can I adjust my winding mechanism for the Breguet watch model in my possession?

You are advised to use a winding mechanism in order to maintain the power reserve of a watch and, where necessary, adjust the date, but not in order to wind the movement. Before placing a Breguet watch in a winding mechanism, it is therefore necessary to wind the watch manually, in full.

Upon request, your retailer will provide you with the winding direction as well as the minimum number of turns per day required in order to adjust your winding mechanism.

          • Breguet craftsmanship and watch decorations

The art of watchmaking is at the very heart of the Maison’s craft with more than thirty different decoration methods and watchmaking techniques coming together to adorn their timepieces. The components crafted are often visible through a crystalline caseback but Breguet, as a prestigious watchmaker, applies the same finishing even to elements that are not visible, leading to the creation of exceptional timepieces.

            Guilloché

Ingenious watchmaker, A.L. Breguet was also a pioneer in the field of design. His inventions were aimed at making the information on the dial more legible, leading him to adopt a technique that had been used to embellish luxury creations since the 16th century : guilloché.  Breguet applied it to its dials to counter the effect of light rays on smooth surfaces and thus improve legibility. A signature of fine watchmaking, today this decoration is applied by hand by the Maison’s artisans to the dials, rotors, mainplates and casebacks. These components are made of the finest materials such as gold, platinum or mother-of-pearl.

            Guilloché according to Breguet

            Hand engraving

Engraving is an ornamental art form in its own right. The master engraver sculpts the finest materials free hand, using a range of tools that have been meticulously shaped and adapted to their hand. The surfaces are shaped, creating reliefs with precision, care and patience, aware that the slightest slip of the hand can undo several days’ work. The resulting finishes give Breguet watches an unparalleled elegance and unique identity.

More than simply decorating the dial, this is a highly specialised craft that requires discipline, patience and technical mastery. The process begins with first crushing and then grinding the enamel to a fine powder. Once this powder is calibrated and purified, it is then applied in layers with a brush to embellish the creation, grain by grain, in a series of stages depending on the desired finish (translucent or opaque). The artisan must anticipate the possible distortions and adapt their technique according to the shape of the pieces they are decorating, bearing in mind that the changes in certain oxides during the high temperature firing process may cause colour variations. This means that extra special attention is required for each firing. The last step of this meticulous process is to apply the finishing touches to the piece to ensure that it adheres to the pre-determined standards and quality criteria set by Maison Breguet.

            Gem-setting

This decorative art consists of embellishing certain parts of the watch with precious stones. They are attached using subtle, discreet metal claws cut directly into the material itself. Breguet uses several gem-setting techniques such as snow settings, which aims to reduce the visibility of the surface on which the stones are set, or invisible settings for baguette-cut diamonds.

            Watchmaking techniques

Anglage, one of the finishing techniques that relies on skills being handed down from generation to generation, is characterised by its complexity. Used for shaping and polishing angles, normally at 45°, anglage, also known as bevelling, serves two functions: the first is is practicality, as it eliminates burrs and machining marks that could be detrimental to the operation and reliability of the movement, but above all it serves an aesthetic purpose, thanks to the subtle interplay between the shine of the satin-finished faces and the polished angles. Each surface is reworked by hand, altered and then polished using several tools and abrasive materials in order to achieve the smoothest of finishes.

            Anglage

Snailing is a decorative finish that forms circular or spiral motifs on certain metal surfaces. It creates subtle plays of light and highlights the care given to the movement's components.

            Colimaconnage

Perlage consists in applying small, regular, overlapping circles to the movement components. This decorative finish creates a luminous texture and highlights the care devoted to surfaces that are often only partially visible.

            Perlage

This craft is used to enhance manufactured metal parts by eliminating any irregularities and burrs, leaving a smooth, shiny finish. The parts exposed to light and wear in particular are polished. Various techniques are used throughout the creation process of a Breguet watch in order to to obtain finishes ranging from a flat polish to an ultra smooth finish, or even to create radiant rounded curves.

            Polissage

Straight stripes are a decorative finish formed of regular, parallel bands applied to the movement components. They give structure to the surface, soften reflections and highlight the geometry of the bridges.

            Cotes droite

Microblasting consists in projecting fine beads onto a metal surface to create a matte, even and slightly textured finish. This finish softens reflections and enhances the contrast with polished or satin-finished surfaces.

            Microbillage

The sunburst finish is a decorative finish composed of radiating lines that extend from a central point. It animates the surface with circular reflections and brings depth to components or dials.

            Soleillage

Stretching and dressing are operations used to prepare or finish metal surfaces through the regular working of the material. They create clean, flat and even surfaces, essential to both visual quality and assembly precision.

            Etirage

The frosted effect creates a matte and finely textured surface, animated by subtle, irregular reliefs. This finish brings depth and contrast, with a mineral appearance that catches the light without excessive shine.

            Sustainable development

As a responsible company aware of today’s challenges, Breguet takes environmental, social and economic aspects into account across all its activities.

            Environment

Breguet is actively committed to addressing environmental challenges through responsible and efficient resource management. With a constant focus on improving its energy efficiency and in line with the ambitious objectives set by Swatch Group to achieve climate neutrality, the House is carrying out a number of targeted investments and specific actions.

Its main production site in L’Orient, Switzerland, is heated by a sustainable system powered by local renewable energy and uses decarbonised electricity, complemented by its own photovoltaic solar energy production.

Breguet also takes its indirect emissions into account, working to minimise them through concrete initiatives, notably in the choice of its sourcing and in the management of employee mobility. Lastly, the House makes it a point of honour to analyse the life cycle of its products, promoting circularity in order to minimise environmental impact.

Aware of the complexity of climate change, it ensures that its employees are made aware of these issues, underlining the importance of individual commitment.

            Responsible sourcing

By applying the Supplier Code of Conduct established with Swatch Group, Breguet ensures compliance with its fundamental principles throughout its entire supply chain. This approach underlines its commitment to maintaining high standards not only internally, but also among its partners and suppliers.

Breguet is committed to carrying out an annual assessment of the risks associated with its supply chain by following the OECD guide, which recommends a five-step due diligence process.

In line with its principles of responsible governance, the analyses carried out to date show the absence of any negative impact on human rights and confirm that Breguet does not source from conflict-affected or high-risk areas, thereby reinforcing its image as a responsible and ethical brand.

            RJC certification (Responsible Jewellery Council)

Whether through the métiers d’art, the manufacturing or the assembly of its timepieces, Breguet has always supported a sustainable approach across all its operational practices.

The project to join the RJC organisation was therefore initiated at the beginning of 2021 and concluded with the obtaining of the RJC-COP (Code of Practices) certification in August 2023. This certification reinforces the House’s position as a responsible player in the sourcing of precious stones and precious metals.

The Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) is a global certification and standards-setting organisation for the jewellery and watchmaking sector whose main objective is to ensure a responsible supply chain, from mine to retail on a global scale, and to foster trust in the jewellery and watchmaking industry as a whole.

          • Breguet Watch Complications

Since 1775, Breguet has designed mechanisms that go beyond the simple indication of hours and minutes. A complication can measure short intervals of time, follow astronomical cycles, indicate several time zones, strike the hour or improve the regularity of a movement.

            Precision and regulation

            The Tourbillon

Invented by Abraham-Louis Breguet and patented in 1801, the tourbillon was born from a quest for precision. By placing the escapement and the balance wheel in a mobile cage, it makes it possible to distribute the effects of gravity on the regulating organ. More than two centuries after its invention, it remains one of the most emblematic signatures of Breguet.

            Time measurement

            Chronograph and flyback

The chronograph makes it possible to measure an interval of time without interrupting the display of the time. A technical function par excellence, it finds a particularly strong expression at Breguet in the world of Type XX. The flyback function makes it possible to stop, reset and restart the chronograph with a single press. A function designed to link several successive measurements in quick succession.

            Astronomical functions

Moon phase, equation of time, perpetual calendar

Some complications do not only measure time: they express the cycles of the sky and the calendar. Moon phase, equation of time and perpetual calendar connect watchmaking mechanics with astronomical movements. At Breguet, these functions combine mechanical precision, dial legibility and a sense of composition.

            Travel time functions

Second time zone and day/night indication

Travel-related complications answer a simple question: how can several times be read at once, without losing clarity or ease of use? The second time zone with memory makes it possible to switch instantly from one place to another, while the day/night indication makes 24-hour time easier to read.

            EXPLORE THE MARINE COLLECTION

            Striking complications

            Minute repeater

The minute repeater makes time audible. On demand, it strikes the hours, quarters and minutes by means of a mechanism of hammers and gongs. This complication requires mechanical mastery, but also acoustic mastery: each element of the case and the movement contributes to the clarity, duration and quality of the sound.

            EXPLORE THE CLASSIQUE 7365

Whether related to precision, the calendar, travel, time measurement or sound, Breguet complications express one and the same requirement: giving mechanical form to a precise function. Each complication extends a vision of watchmaking in which use, technique and movement architecture advance together.

True to the timeless spirit of the collection, the Classique 5177 and Classique 7787 combine the brilliance of two noble materials - platinum and "Grand Feu" enamel - with the technical expertise embodied by two tried-and-tested automatic movements: the Manufacture calibres 777 Q and 591 DRL.

Classique, platinum and "Grand Feu" enamel united for eternity

Platinum’s alluring brilliant grey color is sometimes mistaken for white gold or silver. However, many of its qualities distinguish it from other natural minerals and iron alloys, such as its weight, malleability and above all its high resistance to magnetism and corrosion, making it a symbol of eternity. It is also hypoallergenic, and its weight gives it a strong presence on the wrist.

            The purity of the essential

Coated with intense black "Grand Feu" enamel - one of the most difficult colors to work with - the smooth, uniform faces of these new Classiques are adorned with a set of Breguet Arabic numerals and a discreet timer in powdered silver to create a slight contrast. The rhodium-plated “moon” tip Breguet hands indicating the hours, minutes, and seconds enhance the contrast. Following the habits and customs of 18th century watchmakers to guarantee the authenticity of a timepiece, these "Grand Feu" enamel dials reveal Breguet's secret signature at the right of the center for the 7787 and between the center and 6 o'clock for the 5177.

            Manufacture calibres: precision and reliability

Heir to the technical expertise initiated by its founder, A.-L. Breguet, in Paris almost 250 years ago, the Maison Breguet continues to equip its watches with innovative, precise and reliable movements developed at its manufacture in the Vallée de Joux in the Swiss Jura. The proof is in the self-winding mechanical duo that powers the Classique 5177 and Classique 7787, visible through the sapphire crystal casebacks.

            The 591 DRL calibre: realism

This movement, clocked at 4 Hz and comprising 221 components, delivers 38 hours of power reserve once wound by its rhodium-plated 22-carat gold rotor adorned with hand-made "barley grain" guilloché. The addition of a pinion on the moon-phase disc enables it to offer a realistic display of the cycle, i.e. 29.5303498 days instead of the 29.5 days generally offered by this type of complication, and therefore closer to the 29.53058888 days of the actual lunar revolution. The difference is therefore limited to one day after 348.7 years.

The 777 Q calibre: the essential

Vibrating at the standard frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, this movement - assembled from 237 components - incorporates a flat balance-spring made from silicon, a material resistant to wear, corrosion and magnetism adopted by Montres Breguet in 2006. Its rhodium-plated 18-carat gold oscillating weight is decorated with a hand-engraved "starry mosaic" motif and an exclusive design that echoes the words "Breguet special edition" engraved on the weight. It powers a unique barrel that provides up to 55 hours of power reserve when the watch is fully wound.

          • Breguet Hallmark

The 250th anniversary of the Manufacture Breguet is an opportunity to highlight the House's historic practices of excellence in terms of decoration, technique and ethics.

The uncompromising care given to each of its watches constitutes a legacy that the company wishes to protect through internal regulations. Today, it is embodied by a hallmark affixed to new timepieces.

With this in mind, the teams at the Manufacture have drawn up formal specifications. They provide the framework for this certification, which is based on three pillars. Firstly, the quality of the components, the craftsmanship and the safeguarding of artistic skills; secondly, the high level of chronometry and technical performance of each timepiece; and thirdly, the ethical nature of the entire process. The Breguet hallmark is applied to the finished watch head and the buckle of the bracelet.

            breguet_poincon_2

A hallmark consistent with Breguet values

The hallmark reflects a subtle harmony between traditional expertise and technological innovation. It respects the founding principles of the company. It guarantees not only the authenticity, but also the impeccable quality and performance of each Breguet watch, the meticulous work in which every detail is shaped according to clear criteria of absolute rigour.

The Breguet hallmark will formally attest that each Breguet watch is part of this fundamental process. This approach fits naturally into the context of the company's 250th anniversary. It certifies that each Breguet watch embodies all its values.

The approach of the Breguet hallmark consists of bringing together, around a dedicated internal committee, all the values that underpin the authenticity, beauty and quality of Breguet watches. These fundamental aspects of Breguet's watchmaking culture and heritage are grouped into three pillars: Component Quality, Performance and Ethics.

            Poincon_breguet_remplissage

            Aesthetic harmony

The Breguet hallmark certifies first and foremost the quality of each watch. It is a question of finishing, but also of the way in which it is obtained and the coherence of the overall design. From the birth of the delicate engraved decorations to the temperatures used to fuse the enamels, not forgetting the perfect cutting edge of the chisel reflecting the sure touch of the guilloche-maker or engraver, these efforts are only meaningful if they are applied consistently to the timepieces, in accordance with clear, established principles. The decoration of a movement, technically complex, requires experience and dexterity, as well as a creative spirit that allows us to think beyond what already exists.

Finishing is carried out according to strict in-house specifications, overseen by a dedicated Hallmark Committee, with the aim of highlighting the work of Breguet's craftsmen, who produce the brand's signature finishes by hand, such as guilloché, traditional gem-setting, enamelling and engraving, among others.

The Committee is also responsible for defining, applying and developing the Breguet hallmark. Finally, it has the authority to decide whether a model meets the criteria and can bear the hallmark. Each watch bearing

the Breguet hallmark is thus a guarantee that it has been conceived, developed and made to offer its owner the finest representation of the Breguet art of watchmaking.

            Technical excellence

The Breguet hallmark then certifies a level of performance. It is associated with each watch identified by its individual number, finished and assembled, inspected at each stage of production, and certified at the final inspection. The performances of each watch are systematically chronometric, magnetic and associated with a level of water-resistance specific to the timepiece. Where applicable, acoustics are also subject to strict specifications (grand strike, minute repeater, alarm).

At Breguet, chronometric performance has always been a central concern. This led Abraham-Louis Breguet to classify his timepieces in two categories: "watches for civil use, and watches for scientific use".

As part of its 250th anniversary celebrations, Breguet is updating this classification according to three contemporary categories. Firstly, "Scientific" with a daily rate accuracy of +/- 1 second. Next, "Civil & Sport" with a daily accuracy of +/- 2 s. Finally, "Evening & Jewellery", with a daily accuracy of -2/+6 s.

These performances are monitored throughout the watch's development, guaranteeing its chronometric stability. Breguet has also strengthened its final inspection protocol with a new magnetic requirement based on a more stringent criterion.

It is set at a minimum of 10 times the exposure values of the NIHS 90-10 standard, for a residual drift that is at least 3 times less than its requirements. Compliance with this new internal standard will require additional adaptations that will gradually be applied to all movements certified with the Breguet hallmark. This approach is part of the process initiated nearly 20 years ago, at the instigation of Nicolas G. Hayek, to ensure that Breguet watches are equipped with non-magnetic components, such as the silicon balance-spring.

Performance control also includes systematic measurement of the level of water-resistance specific to each model. This is carried out during air and water tests on each watch bearing the Breguet hallmark. This step ensures that Breguet timepieces retain all their qualities day after day.

Ethics at the heart of the stakes

Breguet has always supported an ethical and sustainable approach to all its watchmaking practices. The Breguet hallmark attests that all the components of its timepieces have been developed in accordance with the highest standards of fine watchmaking.

In this way, Breguet has become a benchmark player in elevating traditional watchmaking expertise, working to maintain and enhance it. This translates into the enhancement of the value of manual work, the craftsman and the artist, as well as respect for the ethics inherent in the art of fine craftsmanship.

The art of guilloché, a fundamental element of Breguet's DNA, is one of the crafts specific to the field of prestige watchmaking. This discipline is perpetuated by the restoration of a fleet of historic machines and the specialists dedicated to rebuilding them. Maintaining and passing on this expertise has been developed through a sustained in-house training programme for guilloché craftsmen and master guilloché craftsmen.

Other skilled craftsmen include conservators and restorers of old timepieces, master enamellers, gem setters and engravers. These disciplines can only be achieved by hand to Breguet standards. The essence of the Breguet hallmark lies in highlighting the experience that perpetuates the watchmaking tradition at its highest level.

The ethical aspect is also reflected in the availability of specialists trained to develop solutions adapted to the maintenance of both current and historic models. Breguet is also committed to guaranteeing that its watches can be repaired for life. Durability is therefore a key element of the Breguet hallmark.

            Breguet Restauration

Breguet also takes into account the environmental, social and economic aspects of all its activities, within a broader framework than that of the Breguet hallmark. All partners in the Manufacture's supply chain are thus aligned with its exacting standards.

Finally, the Breguet hallmark certifies that all the operations required to manufacture the components of the watch head, and its buckle are carried out entirely in Switzerland. The Manufacture's historical archives attest to the fact that traceability is one of its fundamental values, so it is only natural that it should include the Breguet hallmark. Chronometric, supply and production data are part of the intangible heritage of the Manufacture. They represent an additional guarantee of the care with which each Breguet timepiece is crafted.

            Preserve your Breguet

Your Breguet is built to last when it’s cared for properly. Along with an annual water-resistance check and a complete service every 5 to 8 years, the simple precautions below will help keep your timepiece performing at its best over time.

            Wearing a Breguet

To start the movement of an idle watch, wind it manually before strapping it to the wrist.

In the case of a hand-wound watch, wind it until resistance is felt. The watch will then be fully wound. Be careful not to force the crown as it could damage the gear train of the movement.

In the case of a self-winding watch, the minimal number of turns of the crown required to start the watch is indicated in the model’s instructions for use. After this operation, it is recommended to rotate the crown in the opposite direction so as to disengage the winding mechanism. In order to fully wind the watch, please make additional turns of the crown.

            Rewinding

A hand-wound watch should be regularly, specifically of the power reserve capacity , preferably always at the same time, before being placed on the wrist so as to ensure that it benefits from a full measure of reserve power, hence the smoothest running possible. For the same reason, it is also recommended to rewind a self-winding watch that is not worn every day.

            Water resistance

To protect the movement against moisture, make sure that the winding or setting crown is pushed in fully against the case flank or fully screw-locked. The Sales Warranty does not cover water or moisture damage stemming from improper use of the watch.

If you wear your watch for water sports or other activities or if it is often exposed to water and moisture, you should have its water resistance checked every year by a Breguet authorized  dealer.

If you discover condensation under the watch crystal, you can assume that your watch is no longer watertight. In that case, get in touch your Breguet Boutique or Breguet authorised dealer.

            Marine Hora Mundi 5555

            Magnetism

Avoid exposing your watch to strong magnetic fields. They can cause it to run fast, lose accuracy, or even stop temporarily. The good news: magnetism does not usually cause permanent damage to the movement. In most cases, a simple demagnetization restores normal rate and amplitude.
Magnetic fields are more common than you think. They can come from everyday items such as smartphone cases with magnetic closures, tablets and laptops, wireless chargers, headphones and speakers, induction cooktops, electric motors, and magnetic clasps on bags or bracelets. Medical imaging equipment (such as MRI scanners) generates extremely strong fields and should always be avoided.

If your watch suddenly starts running fast—or stops after running fast—it may have been inadvertently magnetized. In that case, please bring it to a Montres Breguet S.A. authorized service facility.

          • Preserving your Breguet bracelet and strap

All our products are made from the finest materials. Below you will find more information on the characteristics and origin of the materials used in the manufacture of our straps and bracelets

            Leather Straps

For our alligator straps, we only use leather from animals bred in Louisiana (USA) and certified by CITES. This guarantees the traceability of their origin. The use of Louisiana alligator skins is subject to strict regulations to protect the species and ensure its conservation. More information on the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) is available at: http://www.cites.org.
The calf leather we use is of European origin.
For reasons of traceability and species preservation, we do not offer any items made from exotic leathers such as lizard, shark or ray. In exceptional cases, we use species other than calf and alligator (e.g. sturgeon), but only if we can guarantee their traceability with a CITES certification.
In addition, all our leather straps comply with strict specifications to ensure longevity and comfort while respecting the most stringent legislation in force.

            Metal Bracelets

We select the metals used according to their mechanical, hypoallergenic and aesthetic characteristics. These characteristics are regularly tested by our specialised laboratory.
The stainless steel used is of medical quality (identical to that used in medical instruments). Although this alloy contains 18% nickel, it does not release this element when in contact with the skin under normal wearing conditions. However, we recommend that customers who are hypersensitive to nickel avoid stainless steel models.
We also offer bracelets made of titanium, which are distinguished by their lightness and thermal properties. This metal is warmer than gold or steel when it comes into contact with the skin. In addition, titanium is a hypoallergenic and particularly resistant material.

            Rubber Straps

The material chosen is of synthetic composition, which gives the product hypoallergenic properties and superior durability.

            Textile Straps

Our textile straps are made from a nylon polyamide fabric known for its hypoallergenic properties, durability and strength.

            Maintenance

The way you wear and take care of your strap or bracelet influences its appearance and longevity. The following recommendations will help you maintain the functionality and beauty over time.

            Breguet authentification

The Heritage Department of Breguet offers an expertise service for antique pieces (watches and clocks). This service first makes it possible to verify the authenticity of a timepiece signed Breguet, as there were many counterfeits at different periods. It also makes it possible, where applicable, to obtain information relating to the piece: main characteristics, date of sale, name of the first owner, etc. No monetary valuation of the piece is carried out.

In order to carry out this expertise, we thank you in advance for sending us your request using the contact form and providing the required information. Using these elements, we will provide you with a response regarding the authenticity of your watch or clock.

1: if the timepiece is not authentic, we will inform you free of charge by email.

2: if the timepiece is authentic, we will provide you free of charge by email with the main information appearing in our records.

3: you will then have the possibility of acquiring, depending on the period in which your timepiece was made, an archive extract for pieces made after 1989 or a handwritten certificate of authenticity for pieces made before 1989. These paid documents compile all the information available in the registers. They are prepared and written by the Heritage Department, and signed by the curator of the Breguet museum and archives.

            Breguet 1176

Warning: A great many “fake Breguet” pieces have been made since the founding of the House, and their number is far greater than that of genuine Breguet pieces. Some “fakes” are very easy to detect. For example, any pocket watch bearing an individual number higher than 5500 can be considered fake. In addition, watches bearing the inscriptions “Spiral Breguet” or “réglage Breguet” or “Breguet Watch Case” are not watches made by Breguet, which never used these inscriptions. If you encounter such cases, there is no need to consult us.

            The Breguet Records

Purchasing a Breguet timepiece gives you the option to have your name entered in the Breguet Records, sales registers kept by the House since the late 18th century and preserved at Place Vendôme in Paris. Historic entries include names such as Marie-Antoinette and Napoleon Bonaparte. Contemporary registrations are handled with the utmost discretion.

            Registration conditions:
            - Your watch was purchased from an official Breguet retailer;

            - You are the original owner of the watch;

            - The registration is submitted using the official Breguet form provided at the time of purchase.

            How to register

A registration form is supplied with your timepiece, together with the certificate of origin and the warranty.

            Classique Tourbillon 7357

The Classique Tourbillon 7357 follows in the footsteps of a historic Breguet model: Ref. 3350, which was none other than the first Tourbillon wristwatch produced by the modern-day Breguet in 1989.

Now one of the timepieces most sought-after by collectors, this model was powered by the Calibre 558, a movement of equal historical significance.

The new Classique Tourbillon 7357 is its direct descendant, based on an optimised version of the famous 558 movement now known as Cal. 187B. To mark the Tourbillon patent’s 225th anniversary, the watch is available in two versions (platinum and Breguet gold), bearing the Breguet hallmark.

Their aesthetic codes draw on the master design of Breguet’s 250th anniversary collections in 2025. The lugs have been entirely redesigned to better follow the curve of the wrist. The Arabic numerals which A.-L. Breguet had already introduced in the late 18th century with a remarkably modern touch – once again take centre-stage on the 18K gold dial. This features the brand’s two most iconic guilloché patterns: Clous de Paris in the centre and Barleycorn around the periphery. For the decoration showcased on the back of the watch, Breguet has devised a unique guilloché pattern for the movement’s baseplate and the caseback inspired by the Dent de Vaulion: the iconic peak of the Vallée de Joux, birthplace of the Manufacture.

            Tradition Tourbillon 7047

Today, Breguet further explores the aesthetics of the Tradition Tourbillon 7047 with a platinum version adorned in a Bleu de France shade adorning the dial and bridges – not only the Tourbillon bridges, but also the large fusee-and-chain bridge that appears on either side of the time subdial. The fusee-and-chain itself is also finished in Bleu de France.

This shade is an original creation unveiled in 2025 to mark the Manufacture’s 250th anniversary on a Minute Repeater (Classique Répétition Minutes 7365). The Tourbillon cage is fitted with a silicon balance-spring. Since 2010, the cage has been crafted from titanium.

An ingenious mechanism for regulating torque: the fusee-and-chain device

To build on the invention of the Tourbillon, the House turned to a principle formalised by another great mind of his time: Leonardo da Vinci. While the latter probably did not invent the fusee-and-chain concept that predates his own (still preserved) sketches by some 50 years, he did explicitly detail its geometry and principles as they are still used in contemporary watchmaking.

A new version of the Marine Équation Marchante 5887 is unveiled in 2026 to mark the 225th anniversary of the patent obtained by A.-L. Breguet for his Tourbillon on 26 June 1801.

The timepiece belongs to the third generation of this iconic collection, launched in 1990 and significantly revamped in 2017. The watch is housed in a 43.9 mm-diameter platinum case. Its dial is adorned with Arabic numerals, a style introduced by A.-L. Breguet himself in the late 18th century, once again reflecting an aesthetic that was particularly innovative for its time.

            An invention that changed watchmaking.

Patented by Abraham-Louis Breguet on June 26, 1801, the Tourbillon was conceived to counter the effects of gravity on the regulating organ. More than two centuries later, it remains one of the most emblematic achievements in the history of watchmaking.

            DISCOVER THE TOURBILLON
          • The Tourbillon

Patented by Abraham-Louis Breguet in 1801, the tourbillon was born from a quest for precision. In 2026, this invention continues to embody one of the most exacting expressions of Breguet watchmaking.

1801, the invention of the tourbillon

On 26 June 1801, Abraham-Louis Breguet obtained the patent for his tourbillon regulator. Designed to improve the regularity of pocket watches, this mechanism addressed a very concrete issue: the effects of gravity on the regulating organ when a watch remains in a vertical position.

            Setting precision in motion

The principle of the tourbillon consists in placing the escapement and the balance wheel in a mobile cage. By rotating regularly on itself, this cage distributes the rate variations linked to vertical positions instead of allowing them to accumulate in a single position.

Gravity disturbs the movement of the balance wheel. A mechanism must compensate for it.

A mobile cage containing the escapement and the balance wheel completes one revolution on itself every minute.

Rate variations cancel each other out.

A rare invention from the very beginning

Of extreme complexity, the tourbillon remained rare in the first decades following its invention. Each execution requires advanced mastery of movement architecture, regulation and energy. This rarity helps make the tourbillon one of Breguet’s most remarkable signatures.

            From invention to signature

At Breguet, the tourbillon is not merely a complication. It expresses a way of conceiving watchmaking: starting from a concrete problem, imagining a mechanical solution, then transforming that solution into a visible architecture.

            The tourbillon today

In contemporary collections, the tourbillon takes several forms. It may appear in a classic and refined composition, in an open architecture inspired by historical movements, or in more complex high watchmaking constructions.

            Breguet gold

Created to mark the Maison’s 250th anniversary, Breguet gold is an 18K alloy with a warm, subtly rosy hue. Inspired by the gold used by 18th-century watchmakers, it combines heritage, innovation and contemporary standards.

            An alloy developed by Breguet

Conceived and developed within the Maison’s workshops, 18K Breguet gold is composed of 75% gold, enriched with silver, copper and palladium. This composition gives it its characteristic radiance, as well as great stability over time. Resistant to discolouration, the alloy preserves the purity and elegance of its hue over the years.

            Breguet-Gold

            A hue inspired by history

In the 18th century, watchmakers selected their gold alloys according to precise criteria of resistance, durability and aesthetics. A.-L. Breguet himself paid particular attention to the materials that contributed to the quality and prestige of his creations.

Breguet gold is part of this heritage. Its delicately rosy nuance evokes ancient golds while offering a contemporary expression specific to the Maison’s collections.

More difficult to work than many other metals, platinum requires great mastery in both machining and finishing. At Breguet, it notably accompanies complex mechanisms such as the tourbillon, the perpetual calendar, the running equation of time and peripheral oscillating weights.

A material intimately linked to Breguet’s history

As early as the 1780s, Abraham-Louis Breguet took an interest in the properties of platinum. Its density, greater than that of gold, made it a particularly suitable material for the oscillating weights of his perpetual watches. He would also use it, more rarely, for the creation of watch cases.

Today, 950 platinum, composed of 95% platinum, accompanies some of Breguet’s most complex creations. Its grey-white hue, weight and understated radiance enhance both the lines of the cases and the finishes of the movements.

            Breguet precious materials

At Breguet, the choice of a material does not respond solely to an aesthetic pursuit. Each metal is selected for its properties, its stability over time and its ability to meet the demands of watchmaking construction as well as those of decorative finishes.

            Breguet gold

An 18K alloy developed by the Maison, inspired by the golds used in the 18th century and recognisable by its warm, subtly rosy hue.

            Titanium

Combining lightness, resistance and low sensitivity to magnetism, titanium allows Breguet to push certain limits of watchmaking construction. The Maison uses it both for movement components and for the creation of cases that are both robust and contemporary.

            Titanium

Light, corrosion-resistant and non-magnetic, titanium possesses properties that are particularly suited to the demands of fine watchmaking. Breguet uses it to develop innovative constructions while preserving the finishing methods specific to the Maison.

Lightness in the service of the movement

The particularly favourable ratio between titanium’s resistance and weight makes it possible to reduce the mass of moving components.
This property has proved particularly instrumental in the creation of large-diameter tourbillon cages and balances. By limiting their mass, titanium helps reduce energy consumption, friction and sensitivity to shocks, without compromising the rigidity of the whole.

A demanding material to work with

The qualities of titanium come with significant constraints during machining and decoration. Its transformation requires specific tools and techniques, both for cutting and finishing.

Breguet has therefore adapted its sandblasting, anglage and manual polishing methods in order to unite this contemporary material with the traditional principles of fine watchmaking.

            Guilloché according to Breguet

Introduced by Abraham-Louis Breguet to improve the legibility of dials, engine-turning has become one of the Maison’s aesthetic signatures. Guilloché makes it possible to define the indications, structure the surfaces and create subtle plays of light.

            A tradition in motion

Handcrafted by using traditional engine-turning machines, each motif is born from a succession of precise gestures. The consistency of the decoration rests entirely on the artisan’s mastery, as they guide the piece and modulate the depth of the engraving. True to this heritage, Breguet continues today to build upon its decorative tradition. New motifs appear, inspired by architecture, landscapes and places intimately linked to the history of the Maison.

            Quai de l’Horloge

            Paris inscribed in the material

The Quai de l’Horloge motif follows the outline of the branches of the Seine around the Île de la Cité and the Île Saint-Louis.
Its design is based on the Turgot map, a particularly precise representation of 18th-century Paris. The contours of the river, quays and islands are recomposed into a network of fine lines that brings the city’s geography to the surface of the metal.
The motif thus leads back to the heart of Paris, where Abraham-Louis Breguet established his workshop, at 39 Quai de l’Horloge. More than a portrayal of the place, it transforms historical cartography into watchmaking decoration.

            Petit Trianon

            Architecture becomes ornament

The architecture of the Petit Trianon is reduced to its essential principles: symmetry, measure and the balance of proportions.
The repetition of lines conveys the neoclassical order of the pavilion in a composition that is both rigorous and delicate. Depending on the incidence of light, the geometry gains depth and gradually reveals the precision of its execution.
Offered to Marie-Antoinette by Louis XVI, the Petit Trianon has a distinctive place in the history of the queen, whose name remains intimately associated with that of Breguet. This reference thus links an emblematic place in Versailles to one of the most famous relationships in the history of the Maison.

            Dent de Vaulion

A relief of the Vallée de Joux

Inspired by the Dent de Vaulion and its reflection on Lac de Joux, this guilloché composes a mirrored landscape. The repetition of facets brings out the silhouette of the summit, then its inverted image on the surface of the water.
The relief is created through the interplay of angles, solids and hollows. As the light shifts, some lines fade while others are revealed, lending the decoration an ever changing sense of depth. The mountain and the lake thus respond to one another in a meticulously balanced composition, inspired by an emblematic landscape of the Vallée de Joux.

Breguet, a name in the skies

From the development of the first aircraft to chronographs intended for pilots, the Breguet name runs through the history of French aviation. Among its most striking chapters is the first non-stop Paris–New York flight, completed in 1930 aboard the Breguet 19 Point d’Interrogation.

One name, two territories of invention

Abraham-Louis Breguet transformed watchmaking through his inventions and research into precision. Several generations later, Louis Breguet transposed this same spirit of innovation to a field still in its infancy: aviation.

An engineer and entrepreneur, he founded his own aeronautical company and, for more than fifty years, developed aircraft intended for military and civilian uses as well as long-distance flights.

            The Breguet 19

Designed in the 1920s, the Breguet 19 became one of the emblematic aircraft of its time. Its robustness and development potential made it possible to create several versions specially adapted for long-distance crossings. In an attempt to link Paris to New York non-stop, one aircraft was fitted with additional fuel tanks and transformed into the Breguet 19 TR Super Bidon.

            Breguet-19

            Why “Point d’Interrogation”?

Faced with the press’s insistent questions about their chances of completing the crossing, Dieudonné Costes and Maurice Bellonte chose to answer with a sign. A large white question mark was painted on the red fuselage of their aircraft. This symbol soon gave the plane its name and became inseparable from the expedition.

            Paris–New York, September 1930

On 1 September 1930, Costes and Bellonte took off from Le Bourget. After a flight of more than 37 hours over the Atlantic, they reached New York on 2 September. They thus completed the first non-stop Paris–New York flight, from east to west, against the prevailing winds. The feat permanently inscribed the Breguet 19 and its two aviators in the history of aeronautics.

From the Breguet 19 to the Type XX

A few decades later, Breguet placed its watchmaking expertise at the service of pilots. The Type 20 and Type XX chronographs were developed to offer immediate readability and reliable measurement of flight times. The “flyback” function makes it possible to reset the chronograph to zero and instantly restart a new timing sequence with a single press. It responds directly to the needs of air navigation.

Precision as an instrument of navigation

            Breguet and the Marine

Long before giving its name to a collection, the Marine held a special place in Breguet’s history. At a time when knowing the exact time made it possible to determine longitude at sea, chronometry became an essential instrument for navigation. Abraham-Louis Breguet took an early interest in this discipline, in which regularity, resistance and precision had to be maintained despite the movement of the ship and variations in temperature.

            Watchmaker to the Royal Navy

In 1814, Abraham-Louis Breguet was appointed a member of the Bureau des Longitudes, a scientific institution notably responsible for issues related to determining longitude at sea. On 27 October 1815, Louis XVIII awarded him the title of Watchmaker to the Royal Navy, one of the most prestigious distinctions to which a watchmaker could then aspire. Breguet became a supplier to the Navy and developed instruments meeting the specific demands of navigation. Between 1815 and 1823, the year of the founder’s passing, the Maison delivered 78 marine watches and clocks.

            Louis XVIII

            Time on board

A marine chronometer must maintain a rate as regular as possible over several months. Compared with the local time observed at sea, the time kept on board then enables the navigator to determine his longitude. To meet these constraints, Breguet developed high-precision movements protected in cylindrical cases, themselves installed in boxes equipped with gimbal suspension. The mechanism thus remains stabilised despite the movements of the ship.

From marine chronometry to the Marine collection

The link between Breguet and navigation continued long after the passing of its founder. Throughout the 19th century and into the 20th century, the Maison continued to supply instruments intended for the Navy. Today, the Marine collection translates this history into a contemporary expression of Breguet watchmaking, combining precision, robustness and complications.
