Appointment of Louis-Clément Breguet to the Bureau des Longitudes

Breguet Bureau des longitude

Grandson of Abraham-Louis Breguet, Louis-Clément Breguet was appointed a member of the Bureau des Longitudes in 1843. This French scientific institution, responsible in particular for matters relating to navigation, astronomy and timekeeping, brought together the leading scholars of its era. His appointment recognised Louis-Clément Breguet’s work in the field of precision instruments and reflected the close ties maintained by the House of Breguet with the scientific advances of its time. It also placed the Manufacture within a tradition in which horological accuracy contributed to the advancement of knowledge and navigation.
