Daily care of your watch

To start the movement of an idle watch, wind it manually before strapping it to the wrist.

In the case of a hand-wound watch, wind it until resistance is felt. The watch will then be fully wound. Be careful not to force the crown as it could damage the gear train of the movement.

In the case of a self-winding watch, the minimal number of turns of the crown required to start the watch is indicated in the model’s instructions for use. After this operation, it is recommended to rotate the crown in the opposite direction so as to disengage the winding mechanism. In order to fully wind the watch, please make additional turns of the crown.

A hand-wound watch should be rewound completely every day, preferably always at the same time, before being placed on the wrist so as to ensure that it benefits from a full measure of reserve power, hence the smoothest running possible. For the same reason, it is also recommended to rewind a self-winding watch that is not worn every day.

To protect the movement against moisture, make sure that the winding or setting crown is pushed in fully against the case flank or (on Marine and Types XX, XXI and XXII models) fully screw-locked. The Sales Warranty does not cover water or moisture damage stemming from improper use of the watch.

If you wear your watch for water sports or other activities or if it is often exposed to water and moisture, you should have its water resistance checked every year by a Breguet dealer.

If you discover condensation under the watch crystal, you can assume that your watch is no longer watertight. In that case, get in touch with an after-sales servicing facility duly authorized by Montres Breguet S.A.

Breguet-Waterproof

Refrain from exposing your watch to strong magnetic fields. Such exposure may cause it to run fast or even to stop running. It should be added, however, that it will cause no lasting or irreversible damage to the movement. In most cases, the timepiece need only be demagnetized to return it to a normal rate and amplitude.

If you notice that your watch runs fast, perhaps followed by a complete stop, it may have been inadvertently magnetized. In such cases, bring your watch in to a servicing facility duly authorized by Montres Breguet S.A.

Breguet Services Magnetism

Your watch requires regular upkeep and maintenance to run properly, in particular to refresh the movement’s lubricants. The frequency of servicing depends on the watch model, the care it receives and the conditions under which the watch usually runs. As a rule, a wristwatch should be brought in for servicing every three to four years.

Obtaining a certificate of authenticity

 The Breguet Museum offers an authentication service for antique watches. The service can be used to verify the authenticity of a watch bearing a Breguet signature and to obtain information concerning the timepiece: specifications, date of sale, name of first owner, etc. No monetary valuation of the piece will be carried out.
To use the authentication service, please send your request via the contact form. We reserve the right to ask you to drop off your timepiece at an authorised point of sale if required.
If the watch is authentic, you will be given the chance to purchase an official certificate of authenticity listing all the information available in the registers. The document will be produced and signed by the museum and Breguet archives registrar.

The Breguet Records

The purchase of a Breguet watch gives you the option of having your name entered in the sales records which the Breguet company has kept since the late 18th century. We encourage you to take part in this opportunity, both to foster the traditions as well as to add to the centuries-old bonds between the House of Breguet and its clients. Kept in the Breguet Museum on Place Vendôme in Paris, our record books contain the names of many leading historical figures, from Queen Marie-Antoinette, Wellington, Napoleon Bonaparte and Tsar Alexander I of Russia to leading contemporary personalities whose identities we hold with absolute discretion.

Entering your name in our records preserves a cherished tradition that emphasizes the esteem in which we hold each one of our customers.

Please note that the below guidelines must be adhered to:

-  Your watch was acquired from an official Breguet dealer;

-  You are the initial owner of the watch;

-  The registration is submitted using the official Breguet form supplied at the time of purchase.

How to Register Your Watch

A registration form for submission of your name in the records is provided with your purchase along with the certificate of origin and the warranty.

Stolen watches

Breguet keeps a list of missing timepieces as a service to its customers. However, this list is purely indicative and non-exhaustive, insofar as it is based on information submitted to the House by third parties, which we do not verify. Therefore, Breguet provides no warranty or representation as to the ownership of any timepieces not recorded on this list.
