With a tourbillon featured majestically at 5 o’clock, this Grande Complication piece also houses a perpetual calendar and displays a running equation of time.
This is one of the rarest and most fascinating watchmaking complications. It displays the difference between the mean solar time - civil hours and minutes - and the true solar time - solar hours and minutes. The equation cam is visible on the tourbillon axis. On the Marine 5887, the minutes of the solar time are indicated directly with the solar minutes hand with a faceted golden sun. A perpetual calendar is naturally added to this. Its various information is displayed between 9 o’clock and 3 o’clock. The 60-second tourbillon features a titanium carriage with a silicone Breguet balance spring. This innovative characteristic allows the balance spring to reach a frequency of 4 Hz, all while conserving a quite comfortable power reserve for this automatic watch. Displayed in an aperture between 7 and 9 o’clock, this features a power reserve of 80 hours. On the back, a sapphire crystal caseback allows one to admire the engraving on the movement, entirely created by hand and spread out over several bridges.

The seconds display makes it possible to follow the passage of time with precision. Depending on the construction of the movement, it may take the form of a central seconds hand or an off-centred small seconds display, integrated into the architecture of the dial.
The equation of time indicates the difference between true solar time and mean civil time. This complication makes it possible to read the sun’s natural variation over the course of the year, with a precision that is as technical as it is poetic.
The power reserve indicator displays the remaining autonomy of the movement before it needs to be wound. It makes it possible to monitor the energy available in the barrel, while adding a direct mechanical reading to the dial.
The calendar displays the date on the dial, generally by aperture, hand or disc. Simple in appearance, this indication requires precise integration both into the movement and into the balance of the dial.
Invented by Abraham-Louis Breguet in 1801, the tourbillon is designed to compensate for the effects of gravity on the regulating organ. By placing the escapement and the balance wheel in a mobile cage, it remains one of the House’s most emblematic complications.
Bevelling consists in chamfering and then polishing the edges of the movement components. This finish highlights the contours of the parts, catches the light and reveals the precision of the work devoted to the smallest details.
Grand Feu enamelling consists in applying enamel and firing it at very high temperatures until a stable, luminous surface is obtained. This expertise demands exceptional mastery, as each firing can either reveal the dial or permanently compromise it.
Hand engraving consists in incising the material using traditional tools to create decorations, inscriptions or motifs. Each gesture calls upon the artisan’s expertise and gives the piece a unique character.
