Abraham-Louis Breguet becomes a preeminent reference in watchmaking and some important writers of this period pay tribute to him through their literary works. Breguet establishes an exceptional and lasting reputation. Stendhal, for example, wrote in a book published in 1817: « Breguet makes a watch which for twenty years never goes wrong…».
