Born in Paris, the French writer Henri Murger (1822-1861) published Les Scènes de la vie de bohème (Scenes of Bohemian Life) in 1848. Its immediate success let him to adapt it for the stage in 1851 and it was later to inspire Giacomo Puccini’s celebrated opera, La Bohème, in 1896.
