Fascinated by minute-repeater watches, in 1783 A.-L. Breguet came up with the idea of striking them on a spring blade instead of the bell gong used in the past, thus improving the entire mechanism and enhancing sound quality. In terms of aesthetics, Breguet opts for a guilloché dial with 24-hour indication and double seconds, or a version in "Grand feu" enamel, an age-old technique that few craftsmen have mastered to this day.
