LONDON, SOTHEBY’S AUCTION: BREGUET ACQUIRES TWO HISTORICAL LOTS08/11/2012
On Tuesday, November 6, 2012, Sotheby’s London organized a unique auction, dedicated to the personal horological collection of the great English watchmaker George Daniels. A total of 137 lots made up of watches, clocks, sculptures and publications were presented to an informed audience.
At that occasion, Marc A. Hayek, President & CEO of Montres Breguet SA, acquired two emblematic lots: an autograph manuscript regarding the production of watches by souscription, dating from before 1800, as well as a brass pantograph, tool used by Breguet for engraving its secret signature on its watches dials.
These two lots of considerable historical value will join the Breguet museum in Paris, located at 6, Place Vendôme.
George Daniels devoted a part of his life to the study of the work of Breguet, who he used to admire. Everybody remembers his book The Art of Breguet, published in 1975.
